Reading at LPPS
Reading allows us to be transported from our own world to another. Between the pages of a book, we can become immersed in the lives of fictional characters and learn about a culture entirely different from our own. We can also learn new words and phrases, experience a range of emotions, and acquire new skills and knowledge.
A child's reading skills are also important to their success in school. The skills will allow them to access the breadth of the curriculum and improve their communication and language skills which are of great importance as they move through life. At Langley Park Primary School we work to promote reading for pleasure as a fun and imaginative time for children as the importance of reading cannot be underestimated. From early reading skills gained through our Sounds-write phonics programme to the vast choice available once a free reader, there is new learning to be gained at every stage.
Here you will be able to find some suggested reading lists for each year group as a starting point. This will help you to support your child to read widely.
